At this year’s Toy Fair in New York Ban Dai revealed its new collection of toys to accompany the next chapter in The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy of Oz the 3D animated film, still in production, boasts an all-star cast including Lea Michele (Glee) as Dorothy Gale and Kelsey Grammer (Boss) as The Tin Man. The film also introduces a whole new set of characters to accompany Dorothy on her new adventure through Oz. Martin Short lends his voice to The Jester, the films villain and Broadway star Megan Hilty (Smash) stars as The China Princess.

The line of toys includes 10” fashion dolls, figures, play sets, and plush dolls. With the wide range of toy types Ban Dai ensures that children of all ages will be able to enjoy them.

The 10” fashion doll seems to be the star of the show. The doll represents the new Dorothy; she still has the same braided pig tails but traded in her cotton dress for denim and her ruby slippers for cowgirl boots. The doll will also feature snippets of songs from the film sung by Michele. She’s more a modern girl but still Dorothy at heart.

Some of the most fun toys are the life sized walking and barking Toto doll and an Oz miniature play set. The play set features Emerald City at the center where characters can ride the spinning  “Rainbow Mover” into whichever world they desire. Kids can collect other world play sets that attach to the Emerald City.

The toys will be great for fans of the original Wizard of Oz as well as the next generation. The toys can still be enjoyed without the film but will be a great accessory to Dorothy of Oz when it releases.

Spring Awakening fans, don’t get your hopes up just yet. But don’t get them down, either?

Despite widespread reports that hit the Web over the past 24 hours, Glee star Lea Michele is not currently engaged in talks to reprise the role she originated in the Broadway production of Spring Awakening in an upcoming film adaptation, a rep for the actress confirmed.

However, in a statement released exclusively to EW, Michele said, “Spring Awakening is so special to me, as is the character Wendla. We have discussed this as a possibility, and we’ll see what happens.”

The story originated yesterday when the film’s director McG (Terminator Salvation, This Means War) told E! Online, “We’re talking to Lea Michele because she made the role of Wendla famous and we’ll see if that pans out and works with the timing of her schedule on [Glee].” As it turns out, those talks happened long ago, and the project has been relatively quiet since — but now that there’s so much buzz and interest on both sides, it may soon find itself picking up steam.

“There were initial talks about this project,” said Michele’s rep. “However, there is nothing confirmed at this time.”

In the film, Michele would reprise the role of Wendla, a part she created in the early workshops and original off-Broadway production of Spring Awakening before it transferred to Broadway in 2006. (She even turned down an offer to play Eponine in the Broadway revival of Les Miserables that same year, opting to stay loyal to Spring Awakening instead.) The show went on to win Best Musical at the 2007 Tony Awards and jump-started Michele’s red-hot career.

The musical, which tells the story of German teenagers discovering their sexuality in the late 19th century, has been rumored to come to the big screen since it closed on Broadway in 2009. McG is attached to direct the film via his production company Wonderland Sound and Vision, which is developing the movie-musical, but at the present time, no studio has greenlit the project just yet.

Is Lea Michele gearing up for another Spring Awakening?

We are so excited to exclusively report that the Glee gal could be reprising her role from the hit Broadway musical in the upcoming movie adaptation.

Here’s the scoop…

“We’re talking to Lea Michele because she made the role of Wendla famous and we’ll see if that pans out and works with the timing of her schedule on [Glee],” the flick’s director, McG, told us last night at the Hollywood premiere of his new romance action flick This Means War.

The show, which won eight Tony Awards and is based on an 1891 German play of the same name, centers around a group of teenagers dealing with topics including abortion, rape, suicide, masturbation and even some S&M. (Glee, anyone?)

“I love Lea; we’ve talked about it,” McG said. “When I first got turned onto the show she was in it so it’s her voice that echoes in my heart. I really think she’s wonderful and we’ll see where it takes us.”

McG said Spring may be his next film project.  “It’s very similar to the [stage] production,” he said. “We’re probably going to shoot it in Eastern Europe and it’s a very true adaptation of what it is with a little Baz Luhrman thrown in.”

Fairy tales are timeless. As the year comes to an end, filmmakers are ready to release fairy tale-inspired movies with cutting-edge flair and plot twists in 2012.

“Dorothy of Oz”

Everyone loves the tales of Oz, from musical fantasy film “The Wizard of Oz” to theatrical production “Wicked.” And now we have an upcoming computer-animated film “Dorothy of Oz,” which is scheduled for a 3-D US theatrical release in August.

The movie revolves around Dorothy Gale’s (Lea Michele) jaunt to save her old friends, the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), the Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer) and the Lion (James Belushi). As she makes the journey through Oz, Dorothy meets new companions Marshal Mallow (Hugh Dancy) and The China Princess (Megan Hilty) and Tugg (Patrick Stewart), who help her fight against the wicked Jester (Martin Short).

The movie is directed by Will Finn and Dan St. Pierre and is based Roger Stanton Baum’s book of the same name. With its line up of Tony, Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actors and actresses, this one is sure to not disappoint.

As the year draws to an end, we can’t help but reflect on all the memorable movies and stand out performances of 2011. But nothing made our hearts skip a collective beat like the actors who scorched up the big screen with their scintillating romances this year.

Whether it was teen newlyweds who brought new meaning to the idea of everlasting love, best friends who finally gave in to their undeniable feelings or superheroes who couldn’t resist the magnetic pull of attraction, these couples had it bad for each other, and we for them. Take a look at the 20 sexiest cinematic couples of 2011.

19. Ashton Kutcher & Lea Michele, ‘New Year’s Eve’
The two primetime stars may stand a foot apart, but the petite Michele and the 6-foot-3 Kutcher are a surprisingly well-matched odd couple (he’s pajama-clad, she’s in a cocktail dress; he’s laid-back; she’s Type A) in the ensemble holiday rom-com. How much sexual tension does it take to blow up a stuck elevator?

As reported by BroadwayWorld earlier this month, a slew of stars are eyeing the role of Eponine in the upcoming film adaptation of LES MISERABLES. Included in the list of possible stars to play the street urchin are: Broadway veteran and GLEE star Lea Michele, Tony winner Scarlett Johansson, music star Taylor Swift, and TV and film veteran Evan Rachel Wood, according to the NY Post.

Last week’s poll asked: if it comes down to these four ladies to take on the iconic role, which one would you prefer? The obvious winner, with a landslide 92% of the votes was Broadway veteran Lea Michele.

New Interviews

Romantic comedy’s A-list cast includes Hilary Swank, Michelle Pfeiffer, Lea Michele and Zac Efron.
In October, the Environmental Media Association honored “New Year’s Eve” with its Green Seal for its efforts to recycle and compost waste, donate used food and materials, and eliminate plastic water bottles on set. A sustainability coordinator was hired to liaise between Warner Bros., the producers and crew to implement green practices, and a weekly ‘green award’ was given to the crewmember that exhibited the most eco-awareness.
